Coventry Motaquip - Partnership Account 10 years on

"Every time the phone rings is a high point to me"

Jim Brennan, owner of Coventry Motaquip, takes a look back over the last decade running his own factor business.

"After spending 20 years working in aftermarket sales I decided to open my own factor with the help and support of Motaquip.  I jumped at the opportunity to be my own boss especially as Motaquip said there was an opportunity to establish a factor in my home town of Coventry."

Ten years on, Coventry Motaquip now has a team of 13 and believes a commitment to delivering the highest levels of customer service is the reason for its success.

Jim continues: "Customer satisfaction has been the main focus for me and the team.  We know that keeping our customers happy is key to our success, so the team ensures that this happens at every level.  Specifically, we listen to our customers and do what we say we will in the time agreed."

In addition to building strong relationships with customers to preserve a loyal base of trade, Jim also acknowledges the need to invest in a factor to ensure its success.

"We believe the quick availability of product is crucial in ensuring our customers don’t go to a competitor.  In such a fast-paced industry, we know garages need products as soon as possible so they can meet the demands of their customers.  We have built up our stocks to meet this need, but should we not have a part on our shelves we are lucky enough to be able to rely on Motaquip’s overnight delivery service to deliver the part to us quickly."

The last ten years have not been plain sailing, but Jim is upbeat about the experience and the future.

"Running my own factor has been tough at times, but I have loved every minute of it.  In fact, every time the phone rings is a high point for me as it means a customer has chosen us over a competitor!"

"I’m so pleased I made the leap to ‘go it alone’ and haven’t looked back since.  We are celebrating our 10th anniversary with a pie and a pint and hope to have many more anniversaries to celebrate in the future!"
