Motaquip History
A brief history of Motaquip from 1981 to present day.
1981 – Motaquip brand created to replace Chrysler Mopar brand retained by Chrysler when Peugeot purchased UK operation; significantly the new brand was aimed solely at independent motor factors.
1983 – Motaquip moves to current site in Tile Hill, Coventry.
1989 – Motaquip passes £10,000,000 turnover per annum milestone and hasn’t looked back since.
1994 – Motaquip’s first general manager, Brian Steele, is appointed – Steele oversees the company’s growth.
1995 – Motaquip’s free overnight delivery service is first introduced, giving customers delivery of goods before 8.30am – a service that still leads the sector today.
1999 – Motaquip launches market-leading Partnership Programme, designed to help budding entrepreneurs start their own motor factor business – 59 business start-ups later, it’s still the best programme in the market.
2002 - New block exemption legislation paves the way for independent garages to service new vehicles, provided they use original equipment matching quality parts. Motaquip is proud to announce that all its service, wear&tear parts are matching quality.
2005 – Motaquip launches its Dedicated Garage Programme providing independent garages with business support to better market themselves and generate revenue. The Garage Programme reaches over 400 members by 2009.
2006 – Motaquip celebrates 25 years in business with a celebration at Blenheim Palace attended by many distributors.
2007 – Motaquip launches its industry leading electronic catalogue, ECAT, providing one of the most up-to-date part and information resources available to the automotive aftermarket. The resource grows in popularity quickly.
2009 – Topping almost 1,000,000 hits per month, Motaquip’s ECAT catalogue system moved to its new home at www.motaquip-ecat.co.uk. Peter Cox is appointed General Manager.
2010 - Motaquip is voted Supplier of the Year 2010 in the CAT magazine awards.
